In a press conference held today, the Quebec-native UFC Welterweight Champion, George St-Pierre, announced that in order “to keep my mental health and find new energy”, he has surrendered his belt.  However, GSP states that this is not a retirement and that he will return to the octagon at some point in the future. However, no date has been set. In the meantime, St-Pierre is looking to unwind, stating that he “didn’t have a normal life all these years.”  Considering his stellar record, 25-2 and undefeated since 2007, a break is understandable. Johnny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler are set to compete for the belt at UFC 171 on March 15th in Dallas, Texas, giving Hendricks a State advantage.
